SlaXBMC 13.37 (x86_64)

The Slackware64 13.37 official release signify the beginning of our very own full blown bootable ISO release of SlaXBMC64, and since SlaXBMC is an extract of the official Slackware Linux distribution it make sense following "mothers" versioning system ;)

I hereby present you the very first SlaXBMC64 13.37 ISO release running XBMC version 10.1 on Slackware64 Linux version 13.37. The release is distributed in two CDs of which the first contain the installation packages while the second the package source codes, and can both be downloaded from the links below:

Download Server 1
slaxbmc64-13.37-install-cd1.isoae9b72945b23ca4d545bdadf846621ef
slaxbmc64-13.37-install-cd2.isoff2aee5eaa55fc76b895a58207e444e0
[CD1 is sufficient to perform a complete SlaXBMC64 installation]

Download Server 2 (Requires email verification)
slaxbmc64-13.37-install-cd1.isoae9b72945b23ca4d545bdadf846621ef
slaxbmc64-13.37-install-cd2.isoff2aee5eaa55fc76b895a58207e444e0
[CD1 is sufficient to perform a complete SlaXBMC64 installation]

For those of you still wondering what this is all about. SlaXBMC64 is an attempt to simplify the setup of XBMC on a Slackware64 based Home Theater PC.
The full installation of SlaXBMC64 is less than 3.1 GB, provide a seamless XBMC setup and a Linux system capable of compiling (if needed) vanilla software (applications/Linux Kernel) from source.

Installations instructions for this release are available on the first two pages of paragraph 1.3. Make sure to:
  1. Select the CD/DVD installation in SOURCE MEDIA SELECTION screen unless you plan on using the USB pendrive installation method mentioned in paragraph 1.2 where you can skip the tagfile handling part.

  2. Accept all packages on PACKAGE SERIES SELECTION screen

  3. Select full install on SELECT PROMPTING MODE screen

  4. Proceed from this point on by accepting the default and obvious settings ;) (if for any reason you are stuck past this point use as reference the steps in paragraph 1.3)

IMPORTANT: Please make sure to select a strong password when asked to do so, but still memorable to you. The setup is performed as the system administrator so you have full control of your system.

NOTE: SlaXBMC does not contain/install the ATI (AMD) and/or NVidia proprietary drivers so you will have to download and install them yourself when you have SlaXBMC up and running.
Hint: The XBMC Exit menu button drop you to Desktop.

i really liked this, I downloaded this cd and i got it installed, one problem i have is when i quit the x server it is strange colours all over the screens. I can type but i see it in split screens. Do you know why?

Hi Jimmy,

That's very interesting, my guess is the problem is related to framebuffer being enabled...
Edit /etc/lilo.conf and set the "vga" variable to "vga=normal", then save the file and issue the command "lilo" in console to re-initialise the configuration file. Following the previous, reboot the system for the changes to take effect...

If by any chance you have an NVidia graphics card I would strongly recommend you install the proprietary driver. Your should see lots of problems go away plus your XBMC will be way more responsive due to the build-in VDPAU support.

Btw, since you can't do your changes from console (Ctrl_Alt+Fn): Exit from XBMC directly to the Desktop using the "Exit" button on the XBMC Shutdown Menu (third button, bottom left).

Let me know if that solved your problem, or have found another solution to this ;)

Second set of download links appear to have died.

Have you considered uploading to usenet or making a torrent available?

Hi Callum,

Thanks for the info; the plan is to upload both distributions and their patches on a Slackware friendly mirror site (http://www.slackware.org.uk/)

Unfortunately real life responsibilities don't allow me much time to deal with this lately :|. I would like to believe it will be finished before (or right after) "Mothers" next release...
